Located at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Holzer Weight Loss Solutions is a regional program - the only one of its kind in the area, focused on chronic, diagnosed, and/or Life-threatening obesity.

At Holzer Weight Loss Solutions (HWLS), qualified patients who have been unsuccessful with other weight loss methods will find new hope.

Our Approach

Our approach to the treatment of clinically severe obesity (being at least 100 pounds overweight or 200% of one’s ideal body weight as defined by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Table) is a multi-disciplinary program. It may include the Lap-Band System, nutrition and fitness counseling, and behavior modification. With all of these components working together, patients can reach the goal of at least 75% excess weight loss and keep it off permanently. Throughout the program, our patients are treated with compassion and dignity, as evidenced in part by our specialized equipment and furnishings - all designed to enhance comfort.

We understand the challenges that patients face attempting to lose weight. The center has a dedicated staff available to help with any questions or concerns. Our staff consists of an RN (on call 24/7), Dietician, Counselor, Administrator, Program Director and Medical Weight Loss Physician. We can help patients obtain dietary documentation needed prior to surgery, check on insurance benefits for patients, assist in gathering patient information needed for surgery and provide information regarding psychological evaluations. The team at HWLS is committed to making the process for lap band pre-approval smooth and a successful weight loss journey for out patients.

The Lap-Band® System

The Lap-Band® System is an alternative to gastric bypass surgery.  It is an adjustable gastric band designed to help patients lose excess body weight, improve weight-related health conditions and enhance quality of life. It reduces the stomach capacity and restricts the amount of food that can be consumed at one time. The Lap-Band® System does not require revision of the stomach, stapling or gastrointestinal re-routing to bypass normal digestion. The System is the only band for weight loss, approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

When choosing a weight loss surgery center you should consider the following questions:

• Is the weight loss procedure you’re considering approved by the National Institutes of Health?
• Is the surgeon board certified with significant experience in abdominal surgery?
• Is the medical center licensed and JCAHO accredited and have a long track record of excellence?
• Does the program include psychological evaluation and counseling?
• Does the weight loss program provide careful monitoring after surgery?
• Is there an exercise and fitness component to the program?
• Does the program provide follow-up support group sessions?
