No one looks forward to having a blood test performed, and some people are very anxious about needles. At the Jackson Laboratory, we can assure you that you will be treated with respect, confidentiality, and care. We have a skilled staff with excellent phlebotomy skills. When you come to our lab, you can trust that we will perform your tests correctly and send your results to your physician quickly. This commitment to service aids your physician in giving you a timely diagnosis and in prescribing the correct medications.

We perform testing for outpatients, inpatients, and Holzer Assisted Living. We are open for blood tests seven days a week and 24 hours a day.

Although we are located beside the emergency department at Holzer Medical Center, Jackson, the lab is a separate non-profit organization. Jackson Laboratory is accredited by CAP-College of American Pathologists. We participate in the CAP surveys to ensure proficiency in every area of testing.

Laboratory Services

Tests performed at the Jackson Laboratory include such common tests as: Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Glucose, Protime, Hemoglobin A1C, Urine Pregnancy tests, Urinalysis, Cardiac Enzymes, PBP, Mono, Flu, and Rapid Strep. Other test types include: Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, Serology, and Special Chemistry. Examples

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to make an appointment?

No. We are open 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.

Do I have to fast prior to my blood work?

It depends on what the physician ordered. Usually the physician will explain how long he wants you to be fasting prior to your draw. During your fast, you may only drink water. Tests that typically require fasting are lipid panels, glucose, and hemoglobin A1C.

Can I get my results?

Yes but only if you sign a release. The registration personnel can give you the form to sign as you are being registered. Then you can either wait for your results or pick them up at your convenience. For your protection, we are not allowed to give results out over the phone.

Will the results be sent to my physician?

If your physician works in our facility, your results will print directly to his office. If your physician is not in our facility, we will fax the results to his/her office.

Are the laboratory personnel nurses?

No. Laboratory personnel are trained phlebotomists and technicians.

Department History

The lab at Holzer Medical Center, Jackson has been a fully functioning laboratory since the day the hospital opened in December of 2000. Several of our technicians on staff today were on hand that first day, and most of our personnel reside in the immediate area. Our staff is comprised people who genuinely care about the community and the people they serve. Our department has always been committed to quality testing and being a place people can trust.

Personnel

The Jackson Laboratory has 4 phlebotomists on staff. There are nine Medical Laboratory Technicians who have a minimum of an Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. All of our technicians are certified by ASCP or are ASCP eligible. Our laboratory manager has an Associate of Applied Science and a Bachelor of Science degree, as well as being ASCP certified. Several of our Medical Laboratory Technicians are eligible to take the AMT exam for certification as Medical Technologists.
