A sense of self-reliance is important to us all, especially as we age and may need more help with everyday chores, activities, and housekeeping than we have in previous years. At Holzer Extra Care, we offer a variety of personal care, homemaking, and housekeeping services. These are available to anyone who could use a little extra help around the home, and do not require a doctor’s order or a medical need.

At Holzer Extra Care, we like to think we pick up where other agencies leave off. Our in-home services assist you with everyday activities so you can live life to the fullest. Professional homemakers, companions and personal care aides provide these services, as planned and coordinated by a Registered Nurse. Holzer Extra Care is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

Customized to fit your needs and schedule, services can be arranged for a few days or on a long-term basis.

Extra Care Services Include:

Homemakers

• Plan and prepare meals.
• Perform light housekeeping, including vacuuming, dusting, mopping, dishwashing, cleaning the bathroom, removing garbage, doing laundry and changing/making the bed.
• Assist with errands such as picking up prescriptions or buying groceries.

Personal Care Aides

• Offer personal care, bathing, and shampooing.
• Assess vital sign including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration.
• Help with mobility, dressing, and toileting.
• Assist with exercise programs.

Respite Companions

• Allow family members, or other primary caregivers, occasional time off to recoup emotionally or handle other family tasks.
• Travel directly to where the client lives and stay on the premises.
• Provide personal attention and companionship.

Insurance/Payment

Holzer Extra Care services may be covered by PASSPORT, Medicaid, private insurance or managed care plans. Or, you may pay for the services directly. We’ll work with you to determine your payment options and file the necessary billing paperwork, whenever possible.

Holzer Extra Care charges for services by the hour.  A three-hour minimum is required for companions and homemakers.  A one-hour minimum is required for personal care aides.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a physician’s order for private duty services?

No. We receive referrals from family members, neighbors, physician’s offices, etc.

Is there a minimum amount of time I have to schedule?

Yes. Clients must schedule a minimum of 3 (three) hours of service.

What is PASSPORT?

PASSPORT is a Medicaid waiver program provide through the Area Agency on Aging. A client must meet specified income guidelines to be eligible. You may call 1-800-582-7277 to see if you qualify. And please remember to specify Holzer Extra Care as your preferred agency.

If I am not eligible for PASSPORT, what are my options?

Your medical insurance or long term disability insurance may pay for services or you can arrange for private pay.

If my insurance covers private duty services, who takes care of the billing?

Holzer Extra Care performs a preauthorization of benefits prior to starting services. After approval, we bill directly from our office to your insurance company.
