Holzer Senior Outreach

Holzer Senior Outreach reaches out to the "senior" segment of the community by providing isolated seniors with a reassuring telephone call, or visit, to ensure they are safe and that they are taking their prescriptions.

This free-of-charge program gives seniors and their loved ones a sense of security and well-being. A loan library is also available with information on various health-related topics for seniors to access.

If you know of a senior who would benefit from this service, or you would like to volunteer with Holzer Senior Outreach, please call (740) 441-3921 or visit our Holzer Health Systems contact page. Our staff is ready to answer your questions and help provide the perfect program to meet you needs.

Holzer Senior Outreach Services Include

  • Telephone Reassurance Program. A reliable and reassuring telephone call can help provide isolated seniors with a feeling of security, safety, and well-being. Calls serve as a reminder to take medication or complete a daily living activity. Calls provide socialization and also assurance someone cares. They help to alleviate the worry and concern of neighbors and family. Daily or periodic calls are made as needed.

  • Home Assistance. Personal care, housekeeping, and meal preparation are available on a limited time basis. Clients are evaluated by a Committee to determine need, type of care, and duration of services. These services are provided at no cost to the client and depend on staff and funding availability.

  • Health Education Loan Library. Books, pamphlets, and videotapes are available for loan, covering a number of topics, including (but not limited to) diabetes, heart disease, wellness, exercise, arthritis, and nutrition. A TV/VCR is also available as needed for loan to clients.

  • Additional Support. Cleaning supplies and personal care items may be provided at no cost to seniors in need.

All services are provided by employees of Holzer Medical Center under the supervision of a registered nurse and project coordinator.

Holzer Senior Outreach is totally supported by fundraising activities held throughout the year. A Celebrity Dinner and Auction, held at the beginning of each year, provides the greatest support for this program.
