Infusion and Injection Services at Holzer
What is Infusion?
Infusion therapy is the administration of medications or nutrients directly into the body. It is possible to infuse many medications with the latest advances in technology and medical treatments. Some of the most common reasons for infusion therapy: Chronic Pain, Dehydration, Gastrointestinal (GI) Problems, Heart Failure,Immunodeficiency Disorders, Malnutrition, Neuromuscular Disorders and Serious Infections. Complex medical conditions, such as Crohn’s Disease, Anemia, Multiple Sclerosis, Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency and Rheumatoid Arthritis can also be treated with specialty medications through infusion.
What is Injection?
Infusions make up the majority of what our nurses do in the infusion rooms, but they also do injections and PICC line dressing changes. Our Athens facility also provides preventative health injections to many local companies in the area, such as TB skin tests and influenza vaccines. We also offer our infusions to providers not affiliated with Holzer. These providers simply need to acquire the prior authorization for the infusion, then fax the order to our infusion coordinator at 740-446-5284.
