For over 100 years, the Holzer name has been woven into the fabric of our community. We are the largest, strongest healthcare system serving south central Ohio into West Virginia and Kentucky.
Today, Holzer is a regional health system with two hospital locations in Gallipolis and Jackson, Ohio, 13 clinical locations reaching the larger metropolitan areas in our region, Athens, Ohio, and Huntington, West Virginia, a dental care facility in Jackson, Ohio, multiple long term care entities including a senior care facility and two assisted living establishments in Gallipolis and Jackson, over 160 providers, more than 30 medical specialties, and approximately 2,500 employees.
Holzer is positioned along the rolling hills of the scenic Ohio River Valley. Our locations are geographically rich and diverse, boasting many artistic, cultural and historic attractions. We are centrally located where a short drive can get you to metropolitan areas or to some of the best skiing and whitewater rafting in the eastern United States. Golfing, kayaking, hiking, cycling, boating, mountain biking and hunting are just some of the most popular outdoor activities.
Educational opportunities are abundant as well. We have two major universities in our area – Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. In addition, the University of Rio Grande is a comprehensive university providing a quality liberal arts education as well as boasting the Holzer School of Nursing, and include a post-secondary option where area students can obtain college credits while still in high school. There are numerous primary education opportunities as there are several school districts in the areas.
