Community Health & Wellness at Holzer Medical Center - Jackson

Holzer Medical Center-Jackson is dedicated to improving the health and wellness of the communities that we serve. We have all heard the old adage that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” There are so many truths within that statement. For many years, the focus of healthcare was on the management of disease. While we remain the area’s leader in healthcare, our goals have changed to include the prevention of disease.

The Center of All We Do

Over the past five years, Holzer Medical Center-Jackson has devoted tremendous resources to the development of the HMCJ Health and Wellness Program. The Health and Wellness Program focuses on community outreach, community education, and the early detection or prevention of disease. This program has been immensely successful and has helped numerous people in southeastern Ohio to identify health issues before they become health crises.

We are proactive in our resolve to build a healthier community. We take our wellness services to the communities that we serve. We want to do all that we can to stay true to the Holzer tradition of making our patients “the center of all we do”.

Offering Screenings Throughout the Year

Holzer Medical Center-Jackson is proud to offer health screenings at local festivals, fairs, and workplaces. The screenings include a variety of services ranging from glucose, cholesterol, and hemoglobin measurements to blood pressure, body composition analysis and bone density testing. Pulmonary Function Testing is also offered to monitor the health and function of one’s lungs and respiratory system. Finally, Dr. Bob McDermott is frequently involved in most health screenings and is available to discuss treatment options for a variety of common conditions that involve the nerves, muscles, and joints.

Support Groups

You shouldn’t have to face your problems alone. Others have been down the same road and have accumulated a variety of experiences. Their wisdom can be of value, as can the companionship and support of those who are in the same situation as you.

Holzer Health Systems offers a variety of support groups, including groups for Autism, Cancer, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and Grieving Parents, and Hospice Support. To learn more, please visit our Support Groups page.

Classes

A variety of classes are available throughout the year, covering topics of health interest to the many segments of the community. Health related classes include such standards as Breast Feeding, Diabetes Self-Management, Infant & Child CPR, Preparation for Childbirth, and Stroke Education.
