Holzer is proud to announce the addition of da Vinci® Surgical System, to be utilized in Urological procedures at the Gallipolis Medical Center. Mohabe Vinson, MD, Urologist, is certified to offer these type of procedures for our patients.
The da Vinci® Surgical System is a tool that utilizes advanced, robotic, computer and optical technologies to assist your surgeon with your operation. The movements are controlled by the surgeon. The System has a 3d high definition vision system, special instruments, and computer software that allow your surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control. The da Vinci instruments have mechanical wrists that bend and rotate to mimic the movements of the human wrist, allowing the surgon to make small, precise movements inside your body. This type of surgery is a less invasive technique that what is referred to as an “open” surgery. With da Vinci, the incisions by the surgeon are much smaller, therefore considering it as a minimally invasive surgery. Studies have shown the following benefits of da Vinci surgery:
- Shorter hospital stay
- Less blood loss
- Fewer complications
- Less need for pain medication
- Faster recovery
- Minimal scarring
Dr. Vinson completed his medical education, Urology and General Surgery Residency at the University Of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Vinson and the Gallipolis Surgical staff are robotically trained to complete surgeries utilizing the da Vinci® Surgical System. Since 2000, surgeons using the da Vinci Surgical System have performed over 1.5 million operations worldwide.
Dr. Vinson is now seeing patients at the Holzer Athens, Gallipolis and Jackson locations. Surgeries utilizing the da Vinci Robot will be conducted at the Gallipolis campus.
