Dr. Riffle Provides Winter Tips
Jacob Riffle, DO, Holzer Health System, has an array of skills and knowledge that fall into the vital medical areas of Family Medicine, Primary Care, and Wound Care. He shares with us some tips for the winter season to maintain the best health possible.

As the winter season is upon us, Dr. Riffle advises everyone to engage in handwashing and to keep their distance if they are sick. He says, “Not only is it important to take care of yourself, it’s also vital that you watch out for others. If you are ill, keep your distance and avoid being around other people. This helps prevent the spreading of illnesses and ensures that everyone in the surrounding community is as healthy as possible. Handwashing goes a long way in making sure that we are not spreading germs and illnesses.”
Dr. Riffle emphasizes the importance of vaccines during the winter season, which is synonymous with influenza. “The flu vaccine isn’t just made to prevent the flu. It’s also meant to reduce the severity of the illness. For example, if you happen to get influenza after receiving the vaccine, there is a greater chance that your side effects will be drastically minimized. More than likely, you will have a less severe experience with the flu,” says Dr. Riffle.
Dr. Riffle talks about his passion for providing great service to the community, saying, “I enjoy seeing patients and helping them. It is great to be of service to the community and help people be healthier. From my experience, it is always good to have annual exams and establish a relationship with your provider. At minimum, I like to see patients on a yearly or bi-yearly basis. This allows us to consistently keep track of patient situations and progress.”
Dr. Riffle explains his services, saying, “When it comes to Family Practice, I have a broad scope of services. I see children and adults. I treat chronic medical conditions such as joint infections, osteopathic manipulative treatments, pap smears, skin biopsies, cryotherapy, and skin cancer incisions. I am also pleased to help patients through my wound care expertise. I take pride in properly dealing with chronic wounds and healing them with proper planning, observations, and procedures.”
Dr. Riffle is accepting new patients and implores everyone to reach out if they have any issues or concerns. He states, “Holzer is a great place to receive care. When you walk through our buildings, everyone is friendly. We acknowledge you, the patient, and want you to be comfortable. As a doctor, I know our specialty providers within the health system. This isn’t always common in a healthcare environment. This familiarity creates a stronger sense of togetherness and is beneficial in countless ways, especially when it comes to the transitioning of patient care.”
Dr. Riffle is currently accepting patients at Holzer Jackson on 280 Pattonsville Rd. His services include preventive care, routine check-ups, management and treatment of chronic illnesses, health risk assessments, immunizations, health maintenance plans, and coordination of specialized care.
