Drug Take Back Day Events Scheduled for April 26

On Saturday, April 26th, 2025, there will be a Drug Take Back event hosted in Gallia, Meigs and Jackson Counties. This event will take place between 10am-12pm at three separate locations: the Holzer Thaler Building, 2881 State Route 160 in Gallipolis, Powell’s Food Fair in Pomeroy, or the Park’s Edge parking lot on Main Street in Jackson. This event is held biannually and allows for the community to dispose of their unwanted or unused medications.

The event has been scheduled to mirror the DEA National Drug Take Back Day Program, which began in September of 2010. Since then, the DEA reports collecting over 19 million pounds of drugs through these events. The local events, over six years, have collected over 1,300 pounds of drugs. Items accepted include prescription medications, over the counter products, sharps such as syringes, lancets, and diabetic testing supplies. We will also take old pet medications!

Drug take back events play a pivotal role in keeping our communities safe and healthy. Disposing of expired or unused medications helps eliminate the risk of medication errors such as accidental misuse or abuse from happening. Properly disposing of medications at our event also stops medications from being flushed down toilets which in turn helps keep our rivers and creeks clean!

We would not be able to operate these events without special help from our wonderful community members. We would like to take the time to thank all of those who help us make this event possible. However, If you are unable to make it to one of these sites and still need drug disposal, there are collection bins available year-round at each county sheriff’s department. You may also request Deterra Drug Deactivation bags from the ADAMH Board or local health departments.
