Masking Requirements

CDC guidance has been updated to address asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic transmission (transmission from infected individuals who may or may not have symptoms) of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. We require everyone (patients, visitors and staff) to wear face coverings (unless under the age of 2, have trouble breathing, are unable to remove the face covering themselves, or other limiting conditions) while in Holzer facilities.

Patients and visitors:

  • Effective January 12, 2022: Given recent evidence that cloth mask/bandanas do not offer adequate source control of COVID-19, we are now requiring patients and visitors to wear our hospital grade mask while being seen by staff in any care setting. This is to protect our staff, as well as, to protect our patients from potential exposure to a COVID-positive healthcare worker.

Holzer Staff:

  • Masking requirements apply to all Holzer staff.

Masking Questions

Why are we required to wear masks now?
COVID-19 is circulating throughout Ohio; therefore, we must assume anyone can be exposed at any time. Having a masking directive for all paired with frequent hand hygiene and effective physical distancing will help protect everyone from the viral spread of the disease. The masking directive requires everyone (clinical or otherwise) to wear some type of facemask to reduce the risk of transmission from anyone who may be asymptomatic but are carrying the disease.

Do I have to wear the mask the entire time I am at a Holzer facility?
Our goal with this directive is to protect everyone from community spread of the virus. Masking is meant to accompany adherence to physical distancing and practicing frequent hand hygiene. If you are in a private location and not in the presence of others, you do not have to wear a mask. Otherwise a mask should be worn at all times.

How long with this directive be in effect?
Until guidance from the state of Ohio and/or the CDC suggests lifting.
