Dr. Charles Bishop'Orthopedists Are Doctors of Function'

- Dr. Charles Bishop - Orthopedic Surgery & Joint Replacement

"Holzer Orthopedics is here to help our communities live better. We want to provide each patient with the best mobility available for that individual."

"Most of what I do is non-operative," shared Dr. Bishop. "For today’s patient, there are many options available to treat arthritis, hip/knee pain without scheduling surgery. As an Orthopedic doctor, I want to safely care for my patients and provide them with a treatment they are comfortable with."

Our experienced orthopedic care team and therapy services department are dedicated to restoring your mobility and your strength using the most advanced care available, so that you can return to enjoying the everyday activities you enjoy most safely and at your pace.

For those who need hip replacement, Dr. Bishop offers the anterior hip replacement approach at our Gallipolis location. The Anterior Approach surgery procedure for hip replacement is a technique that minimizes the pain and time from surgery to recovery. The Anterior Approach allows the surgeon to reach the hip joint from the front of the hip as opposed to the lateral (side) or the posterior (back) approach. In this way, the surgeon can simply work through the natural interval between the muscles. The most important muscles for hip function, the gluteal muscles that attach to the pelvis and femur, are left undisturbed and therefore these do not require a healing process.

"Holzer is proud to offer the anterior approach hip replacement for our community members," shared Dr. Bishop. "Patients that should take advantage of the anterior approach hip replacement include individuals who have osteoarthritis, hip fractures, and pain that worsens when walking. The anterior procedure allows us to have fewer complications and a smaller incision, which should promote faster post-operation recovery."

Dr. Charles Bishop is currently accepting patients at Holzer’s Gallipolis location. He is a graduate of the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Toledo, Ohio, and completed his residency at Marshall University in Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Bishop resides in Huntington with his wife, Jessica and their two daughters. He enjoys working out, and spending time with family.
