PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency

For questions about the residency program or application process, email or call 740-395-8726.

Holzer Family Pharmacy is comprised of three community pharmacies located within Holzer Health System locations serving rural southeastern Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Residents travel to locations in Athens, Jackson, Gallipolis, and Pomeroy to provide patient care. Each location has a unique patient population each with its own set of challenges that pharmacists are equipped to help patients overcome.

The residency offers a unique perspective involving ambulatory care and the impact on the health system. It offers management learning experience with ambulatory, community pharmacy and health system management opportunities. Residents are responsible for developing and implementing ambulatory clinical pharmacy services to help offer high-quality patient care while overcoming the challenges encountered in a rural environment. Holzer Family Pharmacy’s residency has a strong focus on anticoagulation, transitions of care and diabetes. Residents are required to complete a teaching certificate through Marshall University with opportunities for classroom experience and onsite precepting. In addition, residents have opportunities to teach continuing medical education lectures to providers, pharmacology didactic lectures to family medicine residents and medical students and group diabetes self-management education classes to the public.
